The Insecurity of the Wicked & The Security of the Righteous

(Encouraged reading: Proverbs 11)

The wicked live in a way that seals their doom. Their actions, words, and thoughts align themselves with destruction. V. 5 says, “…the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.” Because of free will we get to decide how we live, and we all know that sin, lawlessness, and foolishness come at a cost.

The wicked live for the now, doing, saying, and thinking in whatever ways their carnal flesh desires. They do anything they want down here on earth because eternity is far from their thoughts. But when death comes, there is no hope and there is nothing good to receive.

The righteous are blameless and upright; fully covered by the grace and blood of Jesus and living according to God’s way and standards they are delivered from death. Their words, actions, and thoughts reflect an eternal mindset. Whether they live in poverty or plenty, sickness or health, persecution or tranquility they flourish because they are living for eternity.

Living upright is no loss when the righteous think eternally. Every trial is a way to become stronger in the Lord and to grow to be more like Him. They know the biggest cost has been paid for by Christ on the cross.

Application:

We tend to wander and get sidetracked, especially in a day and age where information, important or not, is everywhere, notifications blow up our phones, and we’ve got to get from one place to another ASAP. Our tendency can be to disregard the Spirit as we are tackling life. But when we do that then what is really leading us? The spirit or our flesh?

Be mindful of when you start living for the world rather than Christ. It’s time to get back to what matters, to affix our gaze back upon Jesus, and remove anything stealing our hearts and attention.

Prayer:

Lord, please show us daily how to live this life for the next. Remind us that though our life is but a vapor You have a purpose and call for us: You desire us to live righteously, wisely, and godly. May we honor You and live accordingly each day.
