v. 1-4, 7, 13-14, 23, 28, 30-31 My Words
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight…” Psalm 19:14a
When the Bible speaks about living a life for Christ it means in thoughts, deeds, and words. When the righteous speak they use and disperse knowledge rightly. They are like a tree of life that bears fruit in good season. Their ear is quick to hear correction and advice and apply it. The ungodly and wicked do the opposite; they scoff at correction, and their mouths pour forth evil.
v. 5-6, 8-12, 15-22, 24-27, 29, 32-33 The Home Life
This chapter covers the home life. It says that in the house of the righteous there is MUCH treasure. Better is a little with God and a dinner of herbs than great treasure and a fatted calf. God will establish the righteous man’s home, but he will destroy the house of the proud. However, the foolish son hates his father’s correction, and the thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord. In contrast, the wise understands because he seeks knowledge.
Application:
To have a God-honoring life your actions must align with honoring God. What changes are needed for you to live for Christ? Is it the words you speak (cussing, gossiping, rudeness)? Is it the things you fill your eyes, heart, and mind with (ungodly books, websites, movies, tv shows, magazines)? Is it your actions (what you do when know no one is looking, the places you go, how you treat your friends and family)?
Prayer:
Lord, may we remember that this life is not about us but about honoring You. We ask that You bring conviction about specific areas of our lives that are not honoring to You, and may we submit our words, thoughts, and actions completely to You.
