(Encouraged reading: Esther 7)

v. 1-6 Esther Speaks Out

“The king urged Esther, a third time, to tell him what her request was, for he longed to know, and repeated his promise that it should be granted, v. 2… Esther, at length, surprises the king with a petition, not for wealth or honour, or the preferment of some of her friends to some high post, which the king expected, but for the preservation of herself and her countrymen from death and destruction,”*

The king then inquires who this man is who seeks her peoples’ destruction. The queen announces that their “adversary and enemy” is the “wicked Haman.” Haman falls into a state of terror at the declaration.

v. 7-10 Haman Befalls to His Own Scheme

The king stormed into the garden after hearing Haman’s plot, while Haman pleaded with the queen. However, no plea would appease the king who came back and ordered Haman’s face to be covered. Harbonah, one of the king’s eunuchs, suggested they hang Haman on the gallows he built for Mordecai. King Ahasuerus commanded that it be done. Haman was soon killed, and the king’s wrath finally subsided.

Application:

God knows the perfect time for us to speak up. When we say something in our own strength and in our own time, things can go bad very quickly. Let us learn to do things God’s way; let’s make a habit of submitting our will to His. Also, we must remember our sin has consequences, whether in the moment or years down the road; no one will get away with their sin. Go before God in humility and ask for His forgiveness.

Prayer:

Lord, sometimes it is hard to follow Your will, especially when there are a lot of unknown factors. Sometimes it seems it would be easier to do life our way, but help us remember we have limited understanding and knowledge, BUT YOU, God, know all! So instead of stressing over our lives, teach us how to willingly give you the reigns and reap the benefits of Your perfect will and infinite knowledge and power. Help us to submit daily to You!
